天天在我身边 Hong Kong 2013

Posted on April 22, 2013

Hong Kong dances on the outskirts of my mind as a city with a certain romantic linger to it.

I miss the 5th floor walk up every night. I miss the uncertainty of the shower temperature (yes, really). I miss hanging my towel up and cracking open the hidden window just to take in the crisp night. I miss how quiet it would get on the walk home after escaping the adrenalin of the city centre. I miss how each morning I would walk out of our abode with my two closest friends in a foreign country and just hear the click of my boots on the footpath. I miss walking past the one restaurant where everyone, without fail, just stared every time we’d walk past and we would just stifle a laugh like it was our own little joke.

Hong Kong 2013

Posted on March 13, 2013

It’s difficult to put into words two weeks worth of rich culture and (many a) story-filled adventure. One of these days I’ll sit down and put up a properly mulled over post. Nonetheless here are photos from our Hong Kong leg. This post is dedicated to my blog fanatic (aha), the sweetest guy we had the pleasure to spend time with in HK- Simon : ) This one’s for you Si, you dashing creature!

Phuket, part 2.

Posted on March 9, 2013

Despite the mass amounts of tourists on every corner of Patong City, I really did enjoy myself the 3 days we’d spent in the heart of Phuket. The company was a major contributing factor. Funny thing was, we’d gone through so much trouble with flights on our way to Phuket, we really were just not in the mood when we’d arrived. And after waiting around for  what seemed like an uncertain ride from the airport (no wifi to contact, no contact number, no address for accommodation -we really should have planned better), waiting around being eyed by 2 guys in a ute, we’d never been more relieved to see our friends pull up in their hired car and just about ran into their arms.…

Phuket 2013

Phuket, more specifically, Patong Beach, was beautiful to say the least. It was the reason for my now tanned complexion. It was amazingly relaxing and travelling with guys who looked after us profusely was luxurious and possibly a little sheltered a trip. All in all, was a memorable/jam-packed three days spent but don’t know that I would return to Phuket. It was much too commercialised/tourist-focused for me to ever go back quite honestly. I would like to go to Bangkok in the future some time though!

A week into Hong Kong

Posted on February 12, 2013

Am really loving Hong Kong. Another week left of being immersed in the culture with my closest friends. I know I am going to miss this place. We’d spent three days in Phuket before we’d arrived in Hong Kong but I don’t miss the place. Not to say I didn’t enjoy my stay there, I just felt like it was a much too tourist and commercialised experience to ever go back and spend more time there. Also comparatively probably due to the fact I am thoroughly enjoying living in the heart of traditional Hong Kong here (Mong Kok). More detailed posts to come! Another week in Hong Kong then off to Malaysia for five days before having to return to reality :(

the best feeling

Posted on December 26, 2012

It’s when you look out beyond the floor to ceiling glass windows, beyond the awaiting airplane, it’s as though you’re on the edge of a world. In transit to another paradigm. It’s when you step out onto new ground the soles of your shoes have never touched before, breathe the surrounding oxygen and it smells, almost tastes different to what you’ve known for 19 years. Some call it air pollution, I like to think its another world. It’s that feeling. February, 2013: Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia!!! Already giddy with excitement..expect many photos/tales of experience/culture shock complaints!! Aha.

Sydney Stint

A good friend of mine once asked me, “What is it that makes you stay in one place?” To which he told me his deal sealer was “the people.” Which after a decent amount of time travelling this year, I have now concluded my own personal preference to that. The people, irrefutably. And the weather. Just last week I’d spent one of the coldest weeks of my life in windy Sydney. I could not wait for my flight home. Winter, you sir, are a deal breaker. Especially just as Brisbane was warming up, I felt such unsettlement at the thought of where I could have been. None of that is to say I did not have a splendid week in Sydney. I had a…
